Setting Up vMac in Windows

This is the setup for the original Mini vMac variation, for Windows. For details on the other variations and for other OS’s, a Google search may provide answers.

Mini vMac is definitely the easiest Apple Computer emulator to set up. Before you begin make sure that you have:

  • Mini vMac (Any build from 2.0 to 3.0.4 works)
  • A valid Macintosh Plus ROM (should be 128 Kb exactly: anything else might have a virus)
  • A bootable disk image (as provided on this website; you’ll most likely want 6.0.8 to start)
  • Stuffit Expander 4.0.1 binary file, unless you have it already on a disk image
  • For Windows users, HFVExplorer (this is a MUST)

First off, put the “Mini vMac.exe” in a folder. Any folder will do.

Put the ROM in this folder. This file MUST be renamed “vMac.ROM”, otherwise it won’t work!

If you followed these steps correctly, a blinking question mark (?) should appear on the screen when you open the executable file.

Now, locate the bootable disk image. You may want to use 6.0.8, as 7.5.5 has more bugs and is more confusing. You can either select in the vMac window “File=>Open Disk Image…” or drag the file into the window. Any method works.

Now that you have it running, find a disk image that has a couple applications on it. Try them out for a while, to see if you installed everything correctly. Enjoy!

I will be glad to answer any questions you may have concerning Mini vMac to the best of my ability, although you may want to check out the website for official documentation. fanman93@gmail.com
